Vitamin D deficiency can be caused by factors such as lack of exposure to sunlight, reduced skin synthesis of vitamin D, lower dietary intake, impaired intestinal absorption, and reduced metabolism to active forms of vitamin D by the kidneys, all of which increase with aging. Deficiency has been linked to numerous health concerns including Parkinson's Disease.
There are 116 studies posted on PubMed associated with Vitamin D and Parkinson's Disease and if you search PubMed for Vitamin D deficiency there are 16703 related research articles.
The Vitamin D Council says, "If well adults and adolescents regularly avoid sunlight exposure, research indicates a necessity to supplement with at least 5,000 units (IU) of vitamin D daily. To obtain this amount from milk one would need to consume 50 glasses. With a multivitamin more than 10 tablets would be necessary. Neither is advisable."
An article posted by ScienceDaily says "evidence that low vitamin D is associated with Parkinson's, says first author Marian Evatt, MD, assistant professor of neurology at Emory."
A great source of Vitamin D is our Isotonix Vitamin D that has 5000 IU's per serving in an isotonic delivery system that is great tasting.
