Are Genetically Modified Foods causing digestive issues?

Recently I attended a seminar where one of the speakers talked about Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO's). His background was an Arborist. As he described how Monsanto and other chemical and pharmaceutical companies had their hands in this industry and how seven countries (not the USA) had banned GMO grown crops because of disturbing studies, I grew more and more angry. He showed that up to 70% of everything you buy at your grocery store is now affected by GMO's.

I began to wonder if all the new or increased health challenges we are facing today were somehow connected to years of eating GMO crops. So I started looking up things associated directly with the digestive tract and found that researchers and doctors were suggesting that GMO crops may be the cause of an increase in crohn's disease and IBS.

Cell Host & Microbe, Harvard School of Public Health (“HSPH”) researchers found that “certain bacteria that inhabit the intestines provides the environmental trigger that initiates and perpetuates chronic intestinal inflammation in individuals who are genetically susceptible to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).”

Obviously from what I have found there is finger pointing from both sides. One saying you are killing us with GMO's and the other saying GMO crops are completely safe. If your like me, I know I have seen an increase in many diseases over the last 20 years which coincides with the use of GMO's.
